Safety Manager (EMT)

The Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring that the highest level of safety and security standards are maintained at all times to protect the residents, employees, and visitors, as well as the assets of our community. He/she interacts with various departments ensuring general safety practices are being adhered to. Extensive resident and employee interaction is also required, as it pertains to routine issues as well as sensitive situations. The Safety Manager has direct oversight of the Safety Department in the absence of the Director and provides on-going Life Safety training and General Safety Programs.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  •  Coordinates the daily operation of the Safety Department.
  •  Selects, trains, evaluates, and disciplines Safety staff.
  •  Responsible for maintaining appropriate staffing levels in the Safety Department.
  •  Assist the Director of Safety with verifying and approving payroll.
  •  Assist the Director of Safety with budget planning and maintaining both labor and operational budgets.
  •  First responder to all emergencies on property; including resident medical emergencies, fire alarms, etc.
  •  Responsible for the daily monitoring of the “Lifeline” system; including resident door monitoring, emergency pendent alerts and other life safety  systems.
  •  Provides ongoing life safety training program to employees across the community; including CPR, First Aid, AED and other classes as needed.
  •  Provides ongoing education to residents covering a variety of topics.
  •  Maintains records of Incident Reports, Daily Officer Logs, Life Safety Reports, Department Training Files, etc.
  •  Serves as a liaison for the community with the police department, fire department and other governmental agencies.
  •  Actively participates on the Safety, Emergency Preparedness, Quality Improvement / Assurance and other community committees.
  •  Ability to conduct fire and other emergency drills as needed

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  •  EMT or Paramedic certified by the state of California
  •  Trained to provide CPR, AED, and First Aid instruction classes preferred
  •  Experience in a long term care, hospital or other health care setting
  •  Disaster Preparedness experience is highly desirable
  •  Knowledge of OSHA General Industry Standards
  •  At least two years supervisory/management experience supervising others
  •  Five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Light to moderate physical effort 10% of the time; may be exposed to the elements (heat, cold, rain); ability to lift 50 pounds; ability to walk 30% of the work day; ability to stoop and stretch occasionally; may be exposed to the HBV and HIV viruses.
